Ancient China has given the world multiple gifts. For instance, Ancient China invented paper money. Ancient China also invented eyeglasses. Another Chinese invention was umbrellas. All in all Ancient China has made multiple inventions that we still use today.
The People and the Camel
Once there was a group of people who traveled across the desert. They couldn’t carry all of their stuff, so they found a camel in Egypt. The camel carried all of their stuff.
“Hurry up camel, we don’t have all day,” the people would say.
“Last time I checked we weren’t doing everything in slow motion,” one of the people said.
The camel continued to put up with this mean behavior until one day he decided enough was enough. The camel started to not listen and kicked everyone’s stuff off of his back.
What is the Best Thing to Pair With Peanut Butter
Even though I don’t really like peanut butter, there are a few things I like with peanut butter in them. My favorite thing to pair with peanut butter is chocolate. What can I say I like Reese’s. I was ten when I first tried Reese’s. The only other things I like with peanut butter are a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich and those orange peanut butter crackers. Still, I don’t really like peanut butter.
Write a Story About You and Three of Your Friends Getting Stranded on a Deserted Island
Britain was waiting to see whether or not she got accepted for a tv show her friend said was super safe. Ding. Britain went to check her phone.
“OMG!” Britain yelled.
“What?” Chelsea asked.
“I got accepted for a tv show and all of you get to come!” Britain exclaimed.
“Yay!” Miyah and Chelsea yelled in unison.
“No thanks.” Emma said. One week later everyone got flown out to a deserted island. Including Emma. The host of the show explained that they would be stranded on the island. On the first day everyone only had raspberries to eat.
“Look what’s better now.” Emma said.
“Still baguette.” Miyah said. Emma rolled her eyes.
“Lets go swimming.” Chelsea suggested. Everyone went out in the water, but Britain went a little too far out. She got bit by a shark. Everyone screamed. The host of the show flew everyone back home and Britain survived. When they got back home Emma said, “Next time you should do more research about the safety of the show.”
Seeing Santa From a Baby’s Point of View
Does your mommy start decorating the house out of nowhere? Well my mommy does. When my mommy finished putting up a tree with a bunch of things on it and putting this shiny silver stuff around it, she picked me up and put me in the car. Where are we going? Are we going to the place where people look at me and say, “Oh, what a cute baby.” My mommy is quiet, so then they start talking about when they had kids. Ugh, we’re at that place. I think it’s called a store, but I don’t know. Mommy brings me up to this strange man dressed in red with white hair. He starts talking to me.
“Ho, ho, ho! Why hello there little one. I’m Santa. I bring you all of your toys.” The man said. So all of my toys are from a stranger? I started kicking and screaming so much that Santa had to take me off of his lap. I was still crying.
“Please take the picture, since the line is really long.” After the picture Santa said,
“Bye little Spencer.” How does he know my name? Before my mommy could get me, I got off the chair and climbed under it.
“Come on Spencer, it’s time to go bye bye.” Mommy said as she tried to grab me. I crawled farther back. I was shaking. I could see other kids crying too. Santa tried to pick me up, but I bit him. My mommy got so angry that she grabbed me and ran out of the mall. I later learned that biting Santa wasn’t nice. I refused to get any toys for a long time because Santa scared me so much. I also learned that Santa was a good guy even though he looks scary. I guess you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.
An Image of Saudi Arabia
The picture of Saudi Arabia that I found was taken in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In the photo it seems to be evening or night time because the sky is dark and all of the buildings are lit up. Based on the picture it looks like most buildings in Riyadh are constructed differently than buildings we see in the United States. The buildings also look different. If I was in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia I would probably feel tired at first. I would feel tired because the flight there would probably be long and I don’t like flying for long periods of time. I do feel like I would enjoy it though, because it seems really pretty when all of the buildings are lit up. I would love experiencing the different culture of Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia seems kind of big, so if it was just my dad and I we would easily get lost considering the fact that we couldn’t even find our way around the Fashion Show Mall in Las Vegas. Overall I think Saudi Arabia seems like a beautiful place and I certainly wouldn’t mind visiting there.
What is Your Favorite Part About Thanksgiving?
I don’t really celebrate Thanksgiving. During Thanksgiving break my family and I go out west. We go to National Parks in Arizona, Utah, and Colorado. We either start in Las Vegas or end in Las Vegas. We don’t have a Thanksgiving dinner. Last year I had a cheeseburger because that was the only place open without an hour wait. The year before that I had pizza because the pizza place was the only place open. My favorite part of Thanksgiving is probably traveling. What’s your favorite part of Thanksgiving?
Would You Rather Be With Alone or With a Group of Friends?
I would rather be with a group of people than be alone if I knew the group of people. The reason I would rather be with a group of people is because I feel like I could benefit from them. For example, if I was on a hike and something happened to me, I would be able to get help from the group of people. It would be easier to do homework with a group of people because there would be more thoughts. If I was bored it would be easier to find something to do because there would be more people to play games with. Plus if I got lost with a group of people it might be easier to find my way because someone might know the way. That is why I would rather be with a group of people.
Writing Mysteries
Revenge Can Be Sweet
It was a warm sunny day as Miley Mathews was sitting in the bay window getting ready for school. The bay window is like a round window seat with a bunch of pillows and cushions on it. Miley is 5’6” with straight dark brown hair that just reaches her shoulders and brown eyes. “Sup homie”, Berkley Brett said as she climbed through the bay window. Berkley is 5 feet tall with long and wavy blonde hair and has green eyes. Berkley and Miley walk to school together every day. They arrive at school the same time as Josh Briar. Josh is tan with light brown hair and blue eyes.
“Hi.” Josh said.
“Hi.” The girls replied in unison.
When the girls got to class Miley asked, “Did you do the homework?”
“Obviously.” Berkley replied.
“What? But you’re Berkley. You never do the homework.” Miley exclaimed.
“Oh my gosh you’re right. What’s happening to me?” Berkley paused. “I’ve been spending too much time with you. I have to do something.” She exclaimed. Berkley used to play a lot of pranks and never did her homework. Now she does her work and never plays pranks. This isn’t going to end well, Miley thought.
“Ladies.” Zarkle said.
“Zarkle.” The girls replied. Zarkle has light brown hair and a Beatles-like haircut that covers his forehead.
The history teacher Mr. Mathews walked into class. Mr. Mathews is Miley’s dad. He wrote on the board Pompeii. “Pompeii. Pompeii was a beautiful Roman city until one day,” he paused, “a volcano erupted and wiped out the whole city. Now you have to think why would anyone want to live so close to a volcano. Miley.” Mr. Mathews said.
“They didn’t believe it would hurt them because they lived close to it for so long.” Miley answered. Miley’s face seemed to have gone blank. “Do it. Do it right now, but please don’t hurt me.” Miley said.
“Do what?” Berkley asked, smiling.
“You’re going to pull the biggest prank ever.” Miley said.
“Oh that’s what you’re talking about.” Berkley said, still smiling.
“So do it now!” Miley yelled.
“I’d rather not.” Berkley said.
“You’re gonna wipe out the whole town aren’t you?” Miley asked.
“And the neighboring towns.” Berkley replied.
Oh no. Miley thought. Suddenly, the fire alarm went off. Mileys face lit up. “A fire alarm! Berkley that’s genius!” Miley exclaimed.
“I didn’t do it.” Berkley replied.
“Yes, you did.” Miley said back. The PA turned on.
“Sorry everyone, that was a false alarm. Please return back to class.” The principal said.
“Oh.” Miley said. Berkley gave her a disappointing look with her forehead wrinkled. If anything went wrong and Berkley was near Miley would blame Berkley. Berkley never actually did the thing that Miley would blame her for.
One day Miley, Berkley, Josh, Zarkle, and Farabelle Smackle were doing their homework at the cafe together. Farabelle Smackle is another one of their friends. She has straight black hair that goes to her chest, brown eyes, and has rectangular black glasses. The waitress came up to the kids and asked, “The cash register’s missing 100 dollars. So basically who took the money?” The waitress asked.
Miley exclaimed,“Berkley. Attention everyone Berkley took the money. She’s a cat burglar. Ooh, yeah, but you can’t erupt for 1000 more years.”
“I didn’t take the money.” Berkley said.
“Yes, you did.” Miley replied.
“No I didn’t.” Berkley fought back.
“Oh, so did someone just put two 50s under the cash register?” The waitress asked as she walked over to check. “Somebody just did that.”
“Look, I don’t want my role here to be someone who takes money or sets off fire alarms. You think you know what I’m capable of? You don’t even know what I’m capable of.” Berkley said as she stormed out the door.
The next day everyone was in class waiting to see if Berkley was coming.
“If Berkley doesn’t come soon she’s going to be late.” Smackle said.
“I don’t think she cares if she’s late.” Josh said.
“I hope she’s okay.” Scarlin said. Scarlin Hammerite was another kid in their class. She had tan skin, brown eyes, and curly brown hair that reached her chest. “Since when did you care about Berkley?” Miley said. Scarlin and Berkley used to hangout a lot until Berkley started hanging out with Miley more. Scarlin steals things and sometimes vandalizes stuff too. Even though Scarlin and Berkley don’t hangout anymore, she still knows Berkley pretty well. During second period Scarlin said, “Oh, Mr. Ponelli I have to leave school for a dentist appointment. My mom is probably waiting outside for me. Bye.” Scarlin said.
“Not so fast.” Said Mr. Ponelli. “I’m afraid I can’t let you leave without any proof that you have a dentist appointment.”
“Oh, right. My mom gave me a note.” Scarlin said as she handed Mr. Ponelli the note. Her parents were out on a business trip, so her aunt and uncle were watching her. Scarlin just forged her mom’s signature. Scarlin left class and went to her locker. I can’t believe how easy that was. Taylor better be out there, thought Scarlin. Scarlin snuck past the office and out the door. When she got out she saw Taylor.
“Sup.” Taylor said.
“Revenge.” Scarlin replied.
“All right let’s get out of here.” Taylor said.
“Thanks for getting me.” Scarlin said. Taylor is Scarlin’s 20 year old neighbor. Taylor has black hair with green streaks that goes to her shoulders. She likes causing trouble and playing pranks.
“Stop the car. We just passed Berkley.” Scarlin said in a very stern voice. Scarlin got out of the car and pretended to tie her shoelace until Berkley passed her.
“Hey Berkley.” Scarlin said.
“Hi.” Berkley said flashing Scarlin a small fake smile.
“You need to make a wax figure of me sitting down.” Scarlin said in a very stern voice.
“No.” Berkley replied.
“I’ll pay you.” Scarlin said, trying to sound persuasive.
“How much we talking about?” Berkley asked.
“100 dollars.” Scarlin replied.
“Deal.” Berkley said.
“I need it by 12:30.” Scarlin said. Berkley came by with the wax figure of Scarlin at 12:00. It looked extremely realistic. Scarlin added a speaker inside of the wax figure and programmed it to answer questions. “Perfect.” Scarlin said.
Taylor dropped Scarlin back off at school. She parked in the parking lot because she was going to play some pranks nearby. The wax figure was in the back of Taylor’s car. “See ya. By the way if you get caught you’ll never hear the end of it from me.” Taylor said.
Scarlin returned back to class.
“Scarlin you’re late to my class.” Mr. Collinestermarkinstrassestern said. Mr. Collinestermarkinstrassestern lets the kids call him Mr. Collin.
“Sorry I was at a dentist appointment.” Scarlin said. Now what should I do to get detention? Scarlin wondered. Ding, ding, ding.
“Class dismissed.” Mr. Collin said. Scarlin went to her locker and grabbed a can of orange spray paint and some fake handcuffs. She went over to the principal and said, “Principal Callawitz, I’ve been trying really hard to not get detention and I wanted to show you my homework that I did.” Scarlin said, hiding the handcuffs and spray paint.
“I’m very proud of you Scarlin. Keep up the good work. Now lets see the homework.” Principal Callawitz said. Scarlin grabbed the handcuffs and handcuffed him to the stair railing. Then she spray painted his clothes orange.
“Look everyone, Principal Callawitz is more like prisoner Callawitz.” Scarlin yelled laughing.
“Detention.” Principal Callawitz strictly said. Scarlin secretly smiled. She was trying to get detention on purpose.
During detention Ms. Crescendo said, “I need to use the restroom, so I will be back in a little bit.” Scarlin grabbed blindfolds for every student in detention except for her identical twin sister Ashlin Hammerite and quickly put it on them. The only difference between her and Scarlin is that Ashlin has shorter hair. Scarlin forced Ashlin to be part of the plan. She bosses Ashlin around a lot. Next she sprinted to Taylor’s car. She grabbed the wax figure and sprinted as fast as she could back to the classroom. She put the wax figure in her seat and left school. She and Taylor headed back to their apartment complex.
“So, how did it go?” Taylor asked.
“Not bad. Thank goodness I can run fast.” Scarlin replied. She stepped out of the car and ran up to her apartment. Her aunt and uncle were at work, so she was home alone. Scarlin quickly dressed up as Nevaeh Scottlynsyn. Nevaeh is a girl that goes to their school and doesn’t really like Berkley. Nevaeh is tan with straight dark brown hair that reaches the middles of her ribs. Scarlin left her apartment and went for a walk.
“Hey Berkley. Today is just a beautiful day.” Someone said.
“Nevaeh? What are you doing here?” Berkley asked.
“Oh you know. Stuff.” She replied. Berkley nodded.
“Can I get your opinion about my new shoes.” She asked.
“Sure.” Berkley said looking down. The girl lifted Berkley up and ran. Berkley was very light, so it was easy to lift her up.
“Stop it! Stop! Put me down!” Berkley yelled. Berkley got carried all the way to an apartment.
Berkley still wasn’t at school the next day.
“Berkley still isn’t here. What if she’s hurt? Is she okay?” Zarkle said frantically.
“I’m sure she’s fine. She’s probably just sick.” Smackle suggested.
“She’s not sick.” Miley said.
“How do you know?” Josh asked.
“Because someone would have let my dad know and no one did.” Miley replied.
“I haven’t been called Ranger Rick, Moral Compass, Huckleberry, or Bucky-Mcboing-Boy in 2 whole days. I miss it!” Josh exclaimed. “I think I know what we have to do.” He continued.
“What do we have to do?” Miley asked.
“We’re gonna skip school to find her.” Josh replied.
“I’m in.” Miley said.
“What? No! Are you crazy? Berkley is nice and all, but I am not skipping school for this. Not in a million years! Plus can’t we just look for her after school?” Smackle exclaimed.
“I love Berkley, but I’m with Smackle on this one.” Zarkle said.
“Looks like it’s just me and Miley.” Josh said.
“Actually it’s Miley and I.” Smackle said, correcting Josh’s grammar. Josh rolled his eyes. Josh and Miley left school and started walking to Berkley’s apartment.
“Do you have the house key Berkley gave you?” Josh asked.
“Sure do.” Miley answered. Miley knocked on Berkley’s apartment door. No one answered. Next Miley unlocked the door with her key. Josh and Miley looked all over the apartment for Berkley. She wasn’t there.
“She isn’t here. Now what?” Miley asked.
“I don’t know. Maybe we should just walk around and go on from there.” Josh replied. Josh and Miley left Berkley’s apartment and walked down towards the old bike shop. They walked past the bike shop with no sign of Berkley. Miley thought she saw Berkley’s bracelet.
“Josh.” Miley yelled. “Josh, come here. I think I found Berkley’s bracelet.” She said. The bracelet Miley found was made of string. It was pink and yellow on the sides and light blue on the rest. The middle was purple with white embroidered letters that spelled out Berkley.
“I think this is Berkley’s bracelet. Man I’m good at finding stuff.” Josh said.
“You’ve got to be kidding me. I found it! I found it, not you!” Miley exclaimed.
“Chill. I’m just messing with you.” Josh said.
“This doesn’t make any sense. Berkley never takes that bracelet off. Never. I think someone took her.” Miley explained.
“We don’t know that for sure.” Josh said.
“Well she didn’t take it off. She wouldn’t. I’ve known Berkley most of her life and ever since she made this bracelet she hasn’t taken it off. If someone took her she must have tried to escape their arms and that’s how her bracelet fell off.” Miley said looking worried.
The next day at lunch Miley, Josh, Zarkle, and Smackle were sitting together.
“Still no sign of Berkley.” Josh said.
“Did you find any clues yesterday?” Zarkle asked.
“Nothing but Berkley’s bracelet.” Miley replied.
“Do you have the bracelet with you?” Smackle asked excitedly.
“Yeah, why?” Miley asked, looking suspiciously.
“If you have the bracelet we might be able to check for fingerprints.” Smackle answered.
“How long will it take to find the fingerprints?” Zarkle asked.
“4 to 8 days.” Smackle said.
“What? 4 to 8 days! That’s way too long! Berkley could be dead by then!” Miley exclaimed frantically.
“Woah there. Chill out. Why don’t we take some deep breaths. Now I don’t think Berkley will be dead by the time Smackle gets the fingerprints.” Josh said. Miley gave him the death stare.
“Is there a quicker way to get the fingerprints?” Zarkle asked.
“My method for getting fingerprints is fast. I am unaware of any quicker method. Due to my busy schedule I will not have enough time to find the fingerprints for a few days, unless I stay up past 10:00 pm. Just so everyone is clear, I am not staying up past 10:00 pm. It provides me with an unhealthy sleep schedule.” Smackle exclaimed.
“What can you possibly be so busy with?” Miley asked.
“Well I have to complete 10 extra credit opportunities, I have to tutor 12 people, do ten hours of community service, look for part time jobs, practice for the debate, work on some kind of advanced technology, apply for scholarships, conduct 3 experiments, and finish analyzing data for my eighth science fair experiment.” Smackle replied.
“Why do you have eight science fair experiments when we only have to do one?” Josh asked.
“Extra credit. Also I need to pick which science fair project is most likely to get chosen to move on to counties.” Smackle replied.
“And why do you need a part time job?” Miley asked.
“Because it will look good on my resume.” Smackle replied. Miley and Josh asked a bunch more questions about what Smackle needs to do.
After school Josh and Miley created a list of possible suspects.
“Callie Lucksyn and Berkley have been rivals since first grade.” Miley said. Callie is tall with long blonde hair and blue eyes.
“But why would she do it? I have ELA, gym, and science with her. I could ask her some questions then.” Josh suggested.
“But how can you ask her without being suspicious. I got it! Callie is single, so ask her on a date.” Miley said.
“Yeah that’s not going to happen.” Josh said.
“Why not? It’s the only way to see if Callie has to do with Berkley disappearing.” Miley said.
“Callie is just daddy’s little rich girl. She always gets what she wants without having to do anything. Callie and I are lab partners. I’ll just ask her then.” Josh said.
“What about Ashlin Hammerite?” Miley asked.
“Who’s Ashlin Hammerite?” Josh asked.
“Ashlin lives by that bike shop. She’s Scarlin’s sister. Berkley, Ashlin, and Scarlin used to hangout all the time.” Miley replied.
“Why did they stop hanging out?” Josh asked.
“I’m not sure. A while ago I remember Berkley saying that she always feels safer around me than with them. Berkley also said that Scarlin was really bossy and they did a lot of things that they shouldn’t have done.” Miley replied.
“What kind of bad things?” Josh asked.
“I don’t know. She never said.” Miley paused. “Scarlin!”
“What about Scarlin?” Josh asked.
“Scarlin probably did it.” Miley said.
“But why would she?” Josh asked.
“Revenge. Scarlin never liked me. Ashlin was jealous of my life and Scarlin probably wants revenge on me for Berkley hanging out with me.” Miley answered.
“That makes sense, but we still don’t know for sure. And it might still be Callie.” Josh said.
The next day Miley was in study hall with Ashlin and Scarlin.
“Hey Scarlin, could I ask you some questions for my school project?” Miley asked.
“Yeah I’m not falling for that. What kind of class would have you interview me?” Scarlin asked doubtfully.
“Drama class. We have to submit any kind of short film.” Miley answered.
“Fine.” Scarlin said. The teacher granted permission for MIley and Scarlin to go to the auditorium to film Miley’s short film. Wow, I can’t believe Scarlin fell for that. Miley thought. The truth was Miley didn’t have a short film to do. She just used that as an excuse to be alone with Scarlin.
“Where were you yesterday?” Miley asked sternly.
“School.” Scarlin replied, flashing a fake smile with a wrinkled forehead. Miley wasn’t able to get any answers from Scarlin.
Meanwhile Josh was in science with Callie.
“Hey Josh, you look handsome today.” Callie said. Josh cringed.
“Uh thanks.” Josh said.
“Wanna go out tonight?” Callie asked as she pulled out a large stack of money from her pocket.
“No.” Josh answered.
“I’ll let you have this money if we go out.” Callie said, trying to sound persuasive.
“Really?” Josh said smiling.
“No!” He yelled getting side tracked. Before Josh could ask Callie more questions the bell rang.
After school Josh and Miley walked back by the old bike shop.
“Wait a second. Look there are security cameras. If we can access the security cameras we can look and see if there are any clues.” Josh said.
“But how can we access the security cameras?” Miley asked. Josh smiled.
The next day Josh asked Zarkle if he could access the security cameras before school started. Zarkle was easily able to access the security cameras. Zarkle, Miley, and Josh reviewed the footage from 5 days ago.
“That’s odd. My computer seems to be glitching up. I can’t tell who’s hair or face is on the footage. We’re going to have to try again tomorrow.” Zarkle said, disappointedly.
“In the meantime we should probably some of our main suspects about where they were.” Josh said. Miley’s face lit up.
“Josh you have to go out on a date with Callie. It’s the only way we can find out whether or not it was Callie who took Berkley.” Miley said.
“No! Not going to happen. Plus we can just wait to see the footage again tomorrow, since Zarkle’s computer will be fixed by then.” Josh said.
“Unfortunately I am unaware whether or not my computer will be fixed. You should go with your original plan of asking questions to some of your main suspects. On the security cameras it says that the crime occurred exactly at 4:00 pm.” Zarkle said. Smackle walked over.
“Greetings my fellow peers, I overheard what you were doing and I want to be part of it. Berkley is my friend as well as yours, so you should use my computer to examine the security footage.” Smackle said.
“Smackle, don’t you remember that your computer is getting fixed.” Josh asked.
“Oh yeah.” Smackle said.
“Can I hear your main suspects?” Zarkle asked.
“Callie Lucksyn, Ashlin Hammerite, Scarlin Hammerite, and Nevaeh Scottlynsyn.” Miley said.
“Nevaeh? Why Nevaeh? She’s the one who spreads awareness about global issues and other stuff. Why would it be her?” Josh asked, smirking.
“Josh! Were you not paying attention when we made the suspects list? Anyways, Nevaeh never talks about Berkley being gone and whenever the subject has to do with Berkley, she changes it.” Miley answered.
“Well why would it be Callie. She’s just daddy’s little rich girl. Knowing Callie she would want nothing to do with Berkley and she would probably think she’s infected if Berkley touches her.” Smackle asked.
“Callie and Berkley have been rivals since first grade.” Miley answered.
“Smackle’s probably right. It’s obviously not Callie, so we don’t have to interview her and I don’t have to go out with her.” Josh said smiling.
“Josh!” Miley yelled giving him the death stare.
“Come on guys we better get to school.” Zarkle said. During science class Josh asked Callie some questions.
“Callie where were you 5 days ago at 4:00 pm?” Josh asked.
“5 days ago? That’s a long time ago. I can’t remember things that long ago. Who do you think I am, Dory?” Callie answered.
“Dory has short term memory loss.” Josh said suspiciously.
“Oh. Well then who’s the fish that’s a really good rememberer.” Callie asked.
I don’t know. And I’m not sure rememberer is a word.” Josh said. Meanwhile Miley was asking Nevaeh some questions.
“Where were you five days ago at 4:00 pm?” Miley asked.
“I was at a hair appointment getting my hair cut.” Nevaeh answered.
“I specifically remember you 5 days ago saying that you were excited for your 5:00 hair appointment. Did it get moved?” Miley said suspiciously.
“No it didn’t get moved.” Nevaeh replied.
“Then how did you have a 5:00 hair appointment at 4:00?” Miley asked, even more suspicious than before.
“Oh right. I was walking my dog Jess with my sister Saige at 4:00 pm. Then I had my hair appointment at 5:00 pm.” Nevaeh answered.
“Smooth.” Miley said. Josh and Miley sat together during lunch.
“Anything about Calllie?” Miley asked.
“Yeah. She seems a little suspicious. She couldn’t remember where she was 5 days ago and was kind of getting off topic.” Josh answered.
“When I asked Nevaeh where she was she said she was at a hair appointment-” Miley said.
“Okay, well then looks like it’s Callie.” Josh said.
“Are you crazy? You didn’t let me finish! You need to stop jumping to conclusions, or else we’ll never find Berkley.” Miley yelled.
“Calm down you’re overreacting.” Josh said.
“Overreacting? Overreacting! I am not overreacting! Is it a problem that I just want to find my best friend? Berkley has been my best friend since first grade and for you to say I’m overreacting is bizarre. Of course I want to find her and I bet you do too. Now stop jumping to conclusions and let’s focus.” Miley said, angrily.
“Look I don’t want to work with you if you’re just going to get mad over everything.” Josh said, grabbing his backpack and beginning to leave.
“Seriously? Josh, come on. We can’t solve this mystery unless we do it together.” Miley said.
“We? Or is it just you?” Josh said as he left.
Great looks like I’m on my own. Miley thought. Miley grabbed a piece of paper and wrote:
Note to self:
Don’t let your emotions get the best of you. Ps: It’s not Callie.
Miley interviewed Scarlin during study hall.
“Where were you 5 days ago at 4:00 pm?” She asked.
“Detention.” Scarlin answered.
“How can I be sure you aren’t lying?” Miley asked.
“Ask Ms. Crescendo.” Scarlin said. Miley glared at Scarlin. Miley went to ask Ms. Crescendo if Scarlin was in detention 5 days ago. Ms. Crescendo told Miley that Scarlin was in detention 5 days ago. Next Miley interviewed Ashlin. When Scarlin walked out she grabbed Ashlin and whispered something in her ear. Ashlin looked nervous.
“Where were you 5 days ago at 4:00 pm?” Miley asked.
“Detention.”
“Okay I believe you. Do you have any possible idea on who could have taken Berkley?” Miley asked. Josh and Miley bumped into each other in the hallway after school. They glared at each other.
“It’s not Ashlin, Scarlin, or Callie. Ashlin and Scarlin were in detention and it’s obvious that it’s not Callie. Although something makes me feel like it’s Scarlin.” Miley said.
“I believe the Ashlin and Scarlin thing, but Callie isn’t innocent. You keep saying it’s obvious that it’s not Callie, yet you have no proof.” Josh said.
“Anyone else seem suspicious?” Miley asked.
“No and I have to get to baseball practice.” Josh said, seeming annoyed. At baseball Josh walked up to one of his teammates Connor and said, “You know that girl Callie.”
“Yeah.” Connor replied.
“I think she took Berkley.” Josh said.
“When did Berkley go missing?” Connor asked.
“4:00 pm 5 days ago.” Josh replied.
“Well I was at the mall 5 days ago at 4:00 pm and I saw Callie and her two friends Adrianna and Jenna at the mall with her.” Connor said. Josh asked Connor a few more questions. After baseball Josh called Miley. She didn’t answer. He called her a couple of times later that day and still no answer. Josh began to get worried. The next day Miley wasn’t at school. Mr. Mathews looked extremely worried.
“Where’s Miley?” Josh asked.
“I don’t know. She didn’t come home yesterday.” Mr. Mathews answered.
“Josh meet me in the janitor’s closet during lunch.” Zarkle whispered to Josh. Josh meet Zarkle in the janitor’s closet during lunch.
“My computer is working again. Now we can see the security camera footage from five, I mean six days ago.” Zarkle said. Josh and Zarkle looked at the footage.
“Nevaeh!” Josh and Zarkle exclaimed. On the footage there was a girl that looked like Nevaeh who grabbed and ran away with a girl that looked like Berkley.
“Oh my gosh, I can’t believe Nevaeh would do this.” Zarkle said in disbelief.
“How will we confront her?” Josh asked.
“Nevaeh is my lab partner, so I’ll confront her then.” Zarkle said. During science class Zarkle glared at Nevaeh.
“Can I help you?” She asked. Zarkle kept on glaring at her.
“Okay what is your problem? Why do you keep looking at me like that?” Nevaeh asked.
“I know you took Berkley.” Zarkle said.
“What? No I didn’t. Why would you say that?” Nevaeh asked defensively.
“I have video proof.” Zarkle said.
“Oh yeah? Show me.” Nevaeh said. Zarkle showed Nevaeh the security camera footage.
“That’s not me. I don’t even go by that part of town.” Nevaeh said.
“It looks just like you. Do you have a twin?” Zarkle asked.
“No.” Nevaeh answered.
“Busted.” Zarkle said.
“Skip ahead to footage from later on in the day.” Nevaeh demanded. The bell rang.
“Sorry school’s over. Got to go, bye.” Zarkle said.
“Oh she’s good.” Nevaeh said to herself. Zarkle came back into the classroom because he forgot his ruler and heard Nevaeh talk to herself.
“Who’s good?” Zarkle asked.
“Um, no one.” Nevaeh said and quickly ran out. Zarkle eyed her suspiciously. Meanwhile Josh was in ELA.
“Class before you leave I would like all of you to know that you have a partner project that will be due next week. Josh and Scarlin, you two are partners.” The English teacher Mrs. Daxton said. Scarlin was happy to be partnered up with Josh because she has a crush on him.
“Do you want to work on our project today?” Scarlin asked.
“Sure, but we can’t do it at my house. It’s getting redone and we’re staying at my aunt’s house in the meantime.” Josh said.
“That’s okay, we can do it at my house.” Scarlin said and then paused. “I have to find someone. Can I meet you out in the front?” She asked.
“Sure.” Josh replied heading to the front of the school.
“Ashlin clean up the whole house and hide everything.” Scarlin demanded.
“Why?” Ashlin asked. Scarlin whispered in her ear.
“Taylor is waiting out in the back. Now go or else!” Scarlin said sternly. Ashlin hurried to the back. Nevaeh saw Scarlin and grabbed her.
“I know what you did.” Nevaeh said quietly.
“So are you gonna tell on me?” Scarlin asked.
“No. I’m just gonna get even.” Nevaeh replied. Scarlin looked nervous. Scarlin went to meet Josh in the front of the school. They walked to Scarlin’s apartment. As they walked inside Josh noticed something. It was a wax figure of Scarlin.
“Scarlin explain this.” Josh said pointing to the wax figure.
“Oh that was for an art project.” Scarlin said.
“No it wasn’t. My cousin Delaney has art with you and she tells me everything you guys do in art and she never mentioned any wax figure.” Josh said.
“Okay fine. I like making wax figures in my spare time. I know it’s weird, so please don’t tell anyone.” Scarlin said.
“Actually Scarlin didn’t make the wax figure. Berkley-” Ashlin said. Scarlin put her hand over Ashlin’s mouth. Ashlin struggled to get it off of her mouth.
“I can’t believe you did this. I can’t believe you framed Nevaeh. I mean not gonna lie it was impressive, but so wrong. Did you program the wax figure yourself?” Josh said.
“Sure did.” Scarlin said.
“You’re not getting away with this.” Miley said as she jumped out from behind Scarlin’s couch.
“Miley what are you doing here?” Josh asked.
“Well I knew that it wasn’t Callie, so yesterday after school I came here.” Miley answered.
“How did you get in?” Ashlin asked.
“I may have picked the lock.” Miley replied.
“What! How?” Scarlin exclaimed.
“What can I say I’m a good lock picker.” Miley said.
“Nice one.” Ashlin said smiling. Scarlin grabbed duct tape and duct taped Ashlin, Miley, and Josh’s wrists together. Then she duct taped all of them to a pole.
“You may know my secret, but no one else does.” Scarlin said, smirking.
The next day at school Scarlin stood in the middle of the hallway.
“Attention everyone. I have an announcement to make. As we all know Berkley has been missing for the past couple of days. I know who took her. Nevaeh Scottlynsyn.” Scarlin yelled.
“I never took Berkley and I have proof.” Nevaeh said.
“Oh yeah.” Scarlin said.
“Yeah. A few days ago Zarkle showed me security footage of Scarlin taking Berkley. Scarlin dressed up as me, so she wouldn’t get caught. If we skip ahead to later on in the day you can see Scarlin’s face. Scarlin looked just like me, but her face wasn’t like my face. Not only that, but you can see me go by the bike shop with my hair shorter. I was walking to Scarlin’s house to meet up with Ashlin. A few minutes after I go by the bike shop Scarlin goes by the bike shop still looking like me, but with longer hair. If you don’t believe me you can see the video for yourself.” Nevaeh said.
“And I witnessed Scarlin bring Berkley into my home as well.” Ashlin said.
“Ashlin how could you? After all I’ve done for you.” Scarlin asked, looking hurt.
“You did nothing but make my life miserable. You’ve been bossing me around for my whole life. I’m done with being your little servant.” Ashlin said. Scarlin ran out of school and called Taylor to come pick her up. As soon as Taylor pulled into the school parking lot Scarlin jumped into her car.
“Step on it!” Scarlin yelled. After school Smackle pulled Ashlin, Josh, Zarkle, and Miley into the janitor’s closet.
“You may have busted Scarlin, but you will never bust me.” Smackle said.
“What are you talking about?” Miley asked.
“I helped take Berkley and I plan on doing more. None of you can stop me.” Smackle said. She ran outside and locked Ashlin, Josh, Miley, and Zarkle in the janitor’s closet.
“Ahhh!” They screamed in unison.
“Here’s a little snack.” Smackle said handing each of them something to eat. They were trapped in the closet for two days. No one unlocked the closet.
“What do we do?” Josh asked. Everyone was so weak and tired that they could barely think. Miley tried to stand up but collapsed. When she fell she hit the wall. All of a sudden the wall opened.
“Woah.” Josh gasped.
“Come on let’s go. This could be the way out.” Ashlin said.
“I don’t know if that’s the best idea.” Miley said.
“Suit yourself.” Ashlin said as she went through the tunnel. Everyone else stayed.
“Oh my gosh!” Ashlin screamed.
“Is everything okay?” Zarkle asked.
“I found Berkley.” Ashlin said. Everyone crawled through the tunnel to get to Berkley.
“How long have you been here for?” Miley asked.
“5 days.” Berkley said.
“How are you okay?” Ashlin said.
“When Scarlin and Smackle locked me in here they left me with a bag of food and water.” Berkley replied.
“Well how do we get out of here?” Zarkle asked.
“I don’t know.” Josh said.
“I have an idea if someone could take the duct tape off of my hands.” Berkley said. Josh got the duct tape off. Berkley stood up and kicked down the door.
“Woah.” Ashlin said.
“Come on let’s go.” Miley said.
“What about Smackle?” Zarkle said.
“What about Smackle?” Berkley asked.
“Smackle said that she’s not done, meaning she could be dangerous.” Josh said.
The kids ran out of the school, but bumped into a security guard.
“Where do you think you’re going?” the security guard asked.
“Who are you?” Josh asked.
“Smackle hired me to keep you from leaving.” the security guard answered.
“That little witch.” Berkley said. The kids got past the security guard and ran.
“And so we meet again.” Smackle said.
“Leave us alone!” Berkley yelled.
“Listen up. All of you have 2 options. Either let me take you or run away from New York City. And I will know when you leave because the snacks I gave you when you were locked up in a closet had tracking devices in them. Take your pick. Zarkle smiled.
“Run!” he yelled. They ran. The next day Zarkle found a way to hack into the tracking devices to mislead Smackle. He made her think that they were by a swamp in New York City. Smackle tracked them down. When she wasn’t paying attention they tied her up to a pole.
“Never mess with us.” Ashlin said.
“I will call the police and report you guys.” Smackle said. The kids ran. No one knew where they ran to or where they were. The end.
